CANAL BREACH CAUSES LOSS CREATS CONCERN

 

A canal has breached and many roads in the district are blocked as torrential rains lash the district since yesterday.

The DDPI has declared a two day holiday to schools and colleges as the level of water in rivers and streams are rising. A hanging bridge, main path for many villagers to cross to the town in Peraje is in danger as only two feet gap remained for the water to submerge it. Many roads are blocked as trees are falling across the road. Telephone and electricity poles have also fallen pushing few villages and towns into darkness.

 

A main canal has breached at Chiklihole Dam yesterday inundating several fields and submerging hoses partially. Agriculturistrists living around Chiklihole have stated that huge loss is incurred due to the breach. The canal breached as the officials undertook repair work only after the onset of monsoon to appease the complaini9ng farmers.

 

Harangi the maximum level of which is  2858 recorded water level of 2858.90 feet today. While the inflow is 6738, out flow is 17.600 cusecs. 450 cusecs is let out to canals.

Madikeri regidtered 82.67 inches of rainfall, compared to 56.67 of last year. Somwarpet received 53.11 inches of rainfall while it received 29.90 inches last year. Virajpet received 58.68 inches of rainfall as against 49.14 inches of last year. Bhagamandala recorded 115.7 inches against 92.67 inches of last year.

 

It has rained more than three inches all mover the district in twenty four hours.
