HARANGI TO BE DEVELOPED

 

The managing director of Irrigation Board, Mr.Thimmegowda disclosed that the sprawling areas of Harangi reservoir would be developed in the lines Krishnaraja Sagar at Mysore.

 

In a whirlwind visit to Harangi and its catchment areas yesterday, he told that there is no dearth for funds to take up emergency irrigation works. He said that the Chief Minister, Dy Cm and the irrigation minister has agreed to take up works in phases. Hence no irrigation project will suffer; he clarified about his statements about stopping all the works as appeared in some of the newspapers.

 

Mr.Thimmegowda stated that roads leding to Harangi and Chikli reservoir would be repaired and the tenders are already called. He assured the farmers who met him that the owners who lost lands in the Chikli reservoir would be compensated and officials are asked to conduct a survey. He opined that THE Authority will discuss with the officials, whether water could be released to the farmers twice in a year. However as a contradiction, the farmers who were present brought to his notice that the Chikli water will not reach all the canal points due to substandard work even once in a year. He also said that the Cauvery Pradikara would be in existence and development of Talacauvery and Bhagamandala would continue as planned, but in phases.

 

Earlier Mr.Thimmegawda performed ‘Bagina Pooja’ at Harangi along with Somwarpet MLA Mr.B.A.Jeevijaya. Mr.Jeevijaya told this correspondent that a project to lift drinking water from Harangi to Somwarpet is in the offing.

 

 

RUCKUS AT ZP MEET

 

Pandemonium broke in the Zilla Panchayath meet yesterday as several issues received unsatisfying clarifications and some officials were absent.

 

The meeting chaired by the president Mrs.Chitra Ramesh was dragged to a length as verbal fights broke between members and the deputy secretary about the appointment of daily wagers without bringing it to the notice of president or members. The DS who tried to stand by his argument was condemned by the members who alleged that Bureaucrats are trying to suppress the freedom of elected representatives.

 

Intervention of the Deputy Commissioner brought the situation under control.

The meeting decided to control sale of milk by the private companies as the sale of Nandini milk is reducing in the district. A member stated that the customers to Nandini have gone down from  25 thousand to 21. It was also decided to serve milk in the meeting instead of Tea and Coffee from nextime.

 

 

NANAIAH BOMBARDS GOVERNMENT;

 

Former minister Mr.M.C.Nanaiah bombarded the Govt which is allowing bureaucrats to hoist Tricolur flag during Independence day celebration. He said in a press conference her that its a shame that the government failed to appoint district in charge ministers in the state. Its a shame caused to the democracy,  he regretted.

Meanwhile he stressed the government to reverse the order of snatching away ownership right of ‘Bane Lands’. He charged against the Conservator of Forests Mr.Venkata Subaiah and said that he is misleading the government.

 

Reacting to Land scam projected by Mr.H.D.Devegowda, Mr.Nanaiah urged for an enquiry.

 

 

CALL FOR DISTRICT WIDE PROTEST;

 

Alleging inaction by the police, the student union of BTCG college at Somwarpet has called for district wide protest tomorrow. The student leaders alleged that the police have failed to arrest the accused who chopped off the hands of a student, Pritvi at Beetikatte  recently. They are calling for district wide protest as police ignored the ultimatum served by them and allowed the accused to be at large.
