BANDH TOTAL AND PEACEFUL
The bandh call given by BJP invoked total and peaceful
response in Kodagu, except verbal skirmishes. The BJP leaders stepped on to streets at six in the morning
and blocked vehicular traffic at
Madikeri, Somwarpet, Virajpet, Gonicoppal, Kushalnagar , Shanivarsanthe and
other important towns. While huge trees were felled at Makkandur to block the
roads, heavy boulders and tyres were laid across the roads in many places. Shops and business establishments remained closed throughout
the district. Schools and colleges were closed on requests. Few schools were
closed as students could not make it as there was no transport. Busses and taxies remained off road and even the state
transport did not take off. However government offices and few banks remained open. MLA Mr.K.G.Bopaiah and MLA Mr.H.D.Basavaraju took the lead
at Madikeri and Virajpet taluks. BJP
district president Mr.S.G.Medappa took
the lead at Somwarpet taluk. Effigies of Sonia Gandhi were burnt at few places. Meanwhile, the youth congress led by its district president Mr.Arun Kumar burnt the effigy of Uma Bharati at Kushalnagar. |
