CHAIN SNATCHERS NABBED
Madikeri July 13 Chain snatchers were nabbed by some of the citizens while
the snachers were absconding with the ornaments in Madikeri town. M.K.Sami an employee in BSNL centre was going with
her sister Shamla on yesterday night towards her house. Suddenly two persons
attacked her and snatched away the chain on her neck worth Rs. 30 thousand
.Although they came in a Maruthi van No. KA 04 A 9942, in a hurried mood they
ran away through the busstand area. While hearing the loud utterance by Shami
some citizens followed the accused and nabbed them with the ornament. The
accused were seriously beaten up by the public and then were handed over to the
Madikeri town police. The arrested
accused are identified as Rohan (22) of Aravathoklu village, Mahesh (40) of Biligeri
village and Balakrishna of Bettageri village. AIDS FOUND IN 9 PERSONS
Madikeri July 13 Aids disease is found in 9 persons at Virajpet. According to
Dr.Nagachar of Virajpet Civil Hospital about 119 members were tested since two
and a half month. Out of them 9 persons got aid disease –he added. These
patients were thoroughly tested . .Three time blood test and observations were
conducted. Then only final conclusion was made-he confirmed. The civil hospital
has got separate identity unit at present and no guess work is done regarding
the confirmation of the deadly disease Dr. Nagachar said. AGITATION BY TELEPHONE SUBSCRIBERS
Madikeri July 13 The Telephone subscribers agitated and surrounded the BSNL
office at Shrimangala demanding the restoring of connections lost due to heavy rain. They also demanded connection
of wil phones, providing sim cards for the mobile phones. The SDOT who came to
Shrimanga has assured , the connections will be restored within 15 days. All
the phones in the area have lost the link due to rain affects-he explained. The
villagers complained about the rude behavior of JTE Mr. Praveen kumar.JTE who
is misguiding the public by instructing them to go for mobile connections
instead of landline, the agitators alleged. CANAL PROJECT FAILURE:FARMERS SUFFER
Madikeri July 13 A canal project incurring lakhs of Rupees to irrigate about
12,500 hectare of catchments area has become completely failure at Kandangala
village near Gonikoppal. The 7,000 meter length canal is under repair. Every
year the maintenance amount of Rs. 20 lakh is drawn by the Minor Iirrigation
department. Still the repair work is incompleted. From Hathur to kunda village about 7000 K.M.canal and from kolathodu to Kabbemani about 600 metres sub canals were still in worst conditions. However, every year from Rs. 15 laksh to Rs.20 Lakhs expenditure is shown on records by the department. Where, all these money gone? Questions the villagers. It is found the repair work is done in 500 metre canal from Hathur Katte to Kokkanda family region.This has been done for false exhibition of facts and figures, the villagers allege. Even the concerned engineers have not visited the spot during the progress of work. However, the contractors have been paid the amount without verifying the facts- the villagers added. The crest gates constructed across the Hathur stream are completely broken. The department is silent about t repair of gates. Even the pipes inserted across Virajpet Gonikoppal road to deviate the water is also damaged and the department is quietly watching it without any action. The farmers are suffering to cultivate the crops without the required quantitiy of water in these areas.
