ZP TO REDUCE BOOKS BURDEN ON CHILDREN

The Zilla Panchayath here has taken steps to reduce the books burden on children and has written to the education department to implement the new system effectively.

The action by the ZP was based on a circular from the Commissioner of education circulated during 2003, September to reduce physical and emotional burden from children. It prescribed certain changes in the system of study and teaching. It says that the children should be taught a maximum of three subjects only in a day. Home work should be reduced. Books should be stored in the school, as far as possible. Teachers should focus on the vocational training. Periodical training should be provided to teachers in the new system of teaching.

Though, already new system is being introduced in some of the schools, shortage of  new text books and lack of training to teachers in some cases have blocked the speed of it.

The Zilla Panchayath education committee will hold a meeting shortly to implement the system in full strength.
