Kodagu Meters, a unit of BHEL, functioning at Ponnampet since twenty years has pulled shutters down.

Producing meters to be supplied to the KPTCL, the factory was ailing since years due to lack of market demand. Since the KPTCL introduced improvised meters, the local meters lost market.

Around 125 workers have become jobless due to the closure. MLA Basavaraju has said that he will lead a delegation to the government and bring pressure to rejuvenate the factory.
