RAIN CREATS HAVOC
Streams and rivers in Kodagu are raising due to the incessant rainfall since yesterday. Two houses have collapsed and a person was injured. Few
villages are cut off from access to main towns while electricity and telephone
connections are badly hampered in many parts. Roads to Napoklu, the native town
of former minister Mr.M.M.Nanaiah are also flooded and blocked. Madikeri received four incjhes of rain in one day while it
rained six inches at Bhagamandala. River Cauvery is in spate at Bhagamandala, blocking roads to Madikeri
and Napoklu. Trees have collapsed in Bhagamandala uprooting few electricity
polls. A lorry and a motor cycle were caught between high voltage
electricity wires at Madikeri as a poll collapsed on its own. The passengers
and the bike rider had miraculous escape as the bike caught fire, which was
later extinguished. Two houses at Virajpet collapsed partially, injuring a
inmate.Subramani, 28 suffered fractures as the roof of his house collapsed at
Virajpet. The district administration has already warned people living
in low lying areas to move to safety. Food centers are also opened in flood
prone areas and rescue teams are also organized.
