GOVERNOR TO VISIT KODAGU Governor Mr.Chaturvedi is arriving in Kodagu tomorrow. According to police, the governor will stay in Nagarhole National Park for a day on a private visit. Elaborate security arrangements are being made for his arrival. TREE TAX TO BE REVISED
The chief minister Mr.Dharam Sing yesterday told that the government will consider revising the tax slab on Trees. Addressing a gathering he said that he is aware of the problems being faced by the residents of Kodagu and would discuss with experts as to how the government should come to their rescue. SURVEY MAPS NEARING EXTINCTION The survey maps and reports dumped in the office building of the survey department are nearing extinction due to rain and moisture. The records are unprotected and not maintained. A visit to the department produces a baffling scene with heaps of files thrown all around. While the government boasts of IT age and computerisation, the survey department is still struggling in Stone Age! The officer in charge of the department told this correspondent that around ten thousand files are pending in the office! It means, ten thousand people in this tiny district are denied service due to unacceptable delay. The officer told that there are 28 people working in the department. Out of the 28, 24 will go out for surveying. Each surveyor can survey a maximum of twenty sights a month. Even if they carryout regular survey, only five thousand files get cleared. By that time new files will also arrive in the office. These surveyors will also be used by revenue and registration departments, delaying the work further. The department is suffering from shortage of staff and security measures to protect the old sketches of the district. Immediate computerisation and filling the vacant posts could save records. CNC PLANS DEHALI CHALO The secretary general of Codava National Council, Mr.N.U.Nachappa told ina press conference that he would organise a Dehali Chalo programme to demand seperate Kodava Land. He stated that the protest would be organised by this December to demand the earswhile ‘C’ status of Kodagu. He also urged that the government should also take initiative to teach Kodava language to all, as per the order of the Supreme Court. He alleged that large scale smuggling of semi precious stones is going on in Koojimale forest range with the connivance of forest officials. Mr.Nachappa opposed the decision to produce power in Barapole area and said that the project is so planned to help the multinational companies. |
