GOVERNOR PLANTS GOOSEBERRY SAPLING

 

Karnataka Governor Mr.Chaturvedi planted a gooseberry sapling in tribal colony to mark his visit at Nagarhole National Park, 90 KMs from here on Sunday. The governor visited the Nagapur rehabilitation centre of the tribes and verified the developments.

 

Addressing the tribes, accompanied by officials from Mysore and Kodagu districts, the governor said that the tribes should not depend upon only foreign exchange money through NGOs or government funds for their livelihood and put their own efforts to earn money. He disclosed that he is visiting Nagarahole and Kakanakote tribal centers to study their life style and development. He also said that he is aware of the situation of tribes from the time he was a secretary in the central government and said that the government is committed to provide alternate dwelling place to the tribes vacated from inside the reserve forests. Mrs.Veena, co ordinator of the Tribes education centre explained to the governor that the government has sanctioned five acres each to the vacated families along with houses and other facilities. Direstor of the centre Mr.Prabhu appealed to the governor to provide education facilities to the tribes to come up in scince and technological field. Mr.Chaturvedi was presented with a sapling of Australian Fig.

 

 

YOUTH CATCH SPIRIT LORRY

 

Members belonging to Gautham friends club and Kavery Sene yesterday bloked a lorry transporting illegal, rectified spirit from Virajpet to Kushalnagar. Police seized the lorry and 35 cans of spirit valued at rupees one lakh. Four persons were arrested and released on bail in this connection.

 

Meanwhile, based on a counter complaint from the arrack contractors, police registered a kidanap, threatening and extortion case against the youth who caught the lorry. Addressing a press conference, Kusum, who was among the group of youth said that severe protests would be held if the police register case against them for the social service they did. He also said that a video graph of the whole operation would be presented to the Deputy Chief minister Mr.Siddaramaiah.
