FARMERS EXPECT GOOD CROP
Farmers in Kodagu expect good crop this season with over 64%
sowing work done so far. The assistant director of agriculture, Dr.Muthuraj
told this correspondent that around 22,590 hectares of paddy fields are sown,
out of the 35,500 hectares. Only 10% of the sowing work was over during last
season due to poor rainfall. Around 6200 hectares of land was sown at Madikeri,
while 2690 hectares are ready at Somwarpet. Virajpet records a progress of
13,700 hectares of sown land. In Somwarpet, sowing of Jowar and Ragi achieved hundred percent achievement, while
tobaco cultivation is over at 40% of the plots. TIBETAN STABBED
An Indian lady, married to a Tibetan , yesterday stabbed her
husband’s friend in a brawl at Bylakuppe. Serioulsy injured Dorje is undergoing
treatment in a hospital at Madikeri. Puttatayamma came in serach of her husband onto the street
with a knife in hand. She found him drinking with Dorje on the road side and
abused her husband. An enraged Puttathayamma stabbed Dorje at his private part
and chest as he supported her husband. Puttatayamma was arrested by Bylakuppe
police . A case of attempt to murder was registered. STUDENTS ON STRIKE
The students of Field Marshal Cariappa College, affiliated
to Mangalore University are on strike since three days. The students who met the Deputy Commissioner today demanded
to change the college timings from ten to three, which is now changed to 9.30
to 4, reduce the fees, fill the vacant posts of the lecturers and provide
facilities. While the Deputy Commissioner promised to take up the matter, the
college principal is exhibiting helplessness as the decision has to be taken by
the University. ADMINISTRATORS APPOINTED
With terms of the elected members coming to an end, the
Deputy Commissioner Mr.Srikanth Valgadh has appointed administrators to two
Panchayaths and a city municipal council. The HQA, Mr.Subramanyam is appointed to Madikeri CMC.
Tahasildars Mr.Subba Rao and Mr.Anil
Vas are respectively appointed to Virajpet and Somwarpet Town Panchayaths. The term of the elected body comes to an end on July 2,
Somwarpet on July 4 and Virajpet , today. ELECTED TO ROTARY
Mr.S.Sharavanan is elected as the president of Rotary
Madikeri. Past district governor from Chennai, Mrs.Rekha Shetty administered
the oath of office to the new office bearers. Mr.C.M.Medappa has become the
secretary, while Mr.Sadashiv Rao was elected as the vice president. |
