RS. 12 CRORE AND OTHER GRANTS FOR THE TOWN DEVELOPMENT

The Madikeri town, now the city municipality will be developed with all the civic amenities with the help of various grants by the Govt. The City Municipal Council Chairman Smt. Kaveramma Somanna and the Vice Chairman Mr. T.M.Aiyappa have succeeded in getting all the grants for the development after they thoroughly have forwarded the necessary proposals with the technical details.

 

The state conservation management and environment and ecology department has granted Rs. 12 crore under the National river conservation scheme. This amount will be utilised for sewerage treatment, underground drainage system, solid waste management, rejuvenation of "Dhobi Ghats" .Low cost sanitation and toilets for the public, lifting of silts in the streams.

 

At Mallikarjunanagar, Madikeri the electric crematorium will be provided in the Hindu cremation ground at the cost of Rs. 4.5 lakhs-explained Mr. T.M.Aiyappa, the Vice Chairman to " The Times of India News Service".

 

Under the IDSMT scheme the state Municipal administration has granted Rs. 2crore 21 lakhs for various development schemes. The scheme includes 90% grant and 10% loan provisions.

 

Under this scheme the City Municipal office will be rebuilt with Rs. 51 lakh of estimated expenditure. The construction includes the new shopping complex. Additional small market will be formed at Chickpet , Madikeri. Shopping complex will be built after the cement slab is installed above the stream at Kohinoor Road. Layout development At the "Ashraya" houses site will be done.

 

Through the City source facility development scheme Rs. 22 crore has been sanctioned. Under this scheme the town planning, commercial and civic amenities, helping self help groups, encouraging self  employment will be carried.

 

In addition to these works, overall development of 9 parks including the historical Nehru Park is also on the move. The installation of Mercury lights in the middle line portion of the main street from Post office to Chickpet has been entrusted under tender work. When asked about the installation of chairs inside the town hall, the Vice chairman assured it will be done immediately through the municipal funds only. When asked about the ban on plastic, the Chairman and Vice chairman disclosed, the destroying of plastics inside the shops is being carried. Further action will be continued with the help of the Deputy commissioner they added.

 

Rs. 15 crores is sanctioned for water supply to Madikeri Town with Cauvery river at Bethri as source . Under this scheme the preliminary work is started in the town for storing the huge gallons of water in two places. Construction of vented dam across river Cauvery, providing of MS raw water rising main from jackwell to existing WTP at Madikeri town for a length of 20 K.Ms from Bethri, escalation and other works will be carried.

 

 

CIVILIANS PROTEST AGAINST THE DELAY IN TREATMENT

 Kadagadal villagers near Madikeri have protested against the negligence of doctors in treating a child.The child died when the doctors started delayed treatment. The child Ishwari (4), daughter of Murugesh a labourer at Kadagadal was suffering from indigestion and loose motion. Although the parents have informed the nurses and doctor about the urgency of the case, they neglected and made the parents to wait one hour-complained the villagers. When the child died, the villagers enmasse protested against the negligence of the doctor and the staff. Ultimately the parents returned to their native with the dead body of the baby.

 

PROTEST-ANTI PROTEST

A day before yesterday , the Green chilli growers had protested against the merchants for ignoring the produce. They demanded the raise in prices from Rs,35 per Bag to atleast  Rs. 50 per bag. The merchants  who came from  Hassan, Arakalgod, Tamilnadu and also within the district quoted only Rs. 35 per bag. The enraged growers protested against the merchants and also damaged two lorries demanding the increase in rate.

 

In retaliation yesterday the merchants bocotted the Monday Market at Somwarpet particulraly by not purchasing the green chilli. The growers even ready to sell at Rs. 20 per bag. However, the merchants did not turned up. They have comlpletely rejected the plea. Once the chilli rate had gone up to Rs. 100 to Rs, 200 per bag. Suddenly the market has collapsed.
