KODAVA HOCKEY ENTERING SEMI FINALS

The Kodava Hockey match started during 1997.Every year different families sponsor the matches in different places. This is the 8th year of competitions. This year 'Maleyanda' families sponsor the whole show. On 2nd of May the Maleyanda hockey cup commenced at Garagandur village, Somwarpet thaluk. On 23rd of this month finals will be played.236 Kodava families are participating. As on today Nellamakkada,Mandepanda,Koothanda, Palanganda-these 4 family teams left on the fray.

 

Today’s match between Nellamakkda and Machamada families ended in the winning of 5-2 goals for the Nellamakkada family team who are the last years winners.

 

Today’s scorers are Sajan Devaiah, Sachin Bopanna,  Girish and Somanna for the Nellamakkada team and Shyam and Sanju for the Machamada team.

 

This year there is a speciality. There will be no quarter finals as such. The match between the last left 4 teams will be played like 'Round Robin' type. In each 3 matches highest scoring teams will play the finals. In this Round Robin Type play ,the winning team in each round will get +3 points.

 

The Kodava Hockey has become a festival type match since the idea came to practical. Every family teams will participate as if it is a compulsion  and obligatory. The families curiously wait with calculations for the winners with bets and bets.

 

 

DEVELOP KODAVA CULTURE:CALL BY LEADERS

'Protect and develop Kodava culture' called the community leaders in the 2nd 'Kodava Desha' conference held at Shrimangala, Virajpet thaluk.

 

Kodava Culture has its’ own unique features; All the Kodavas should follow the  traditional performances and should protect and develop them- opined the speakers in the conference.

 

There is no disciplined system to be followed in traditional performances.However,. Our elders have guided us to continue the old tradition., That spirit should not come down: said many speakers. Some other languages have entered to dominate our Kodava culture. But the community people should be aware of the affect.

 

In the midst of the cloudy weather the conference was colorful and many cultural programmes were conducted.  Virajpet Akhilla Kodava Samaj people, villagers from surrounding T.Sherttigeri, Marenad, Kutta,  Kumatur,  Nemmale, Kurchi And Biruga  have attended the conference in large numbers.

 

All the participants wore traditionally dresses. The huge procession was inaugurated by Ballachanda A. Nanaiah, the president of federation of Kodavaq samajas. Mr. Mr.M.C.Nanaiah, the ex. Minister , Akhila Kodava Samaj president Mr. Mathanda Monnappa,,Kodava Education fund president Dr. M.M.Chengappa, Bangalore Kodava Samaj president K.M.Appaiah, Mysore Kodava Samaj president Mr. A.S.Kuttappa have spoken.The 'Pattole Palame'.the book in Kodava  language was translated and presented in English which was also released during the function.The translation was done by Smt. Nanjamma  Chinnnappa a Kodava writer.  C.G.kushalappa, the Ponnampet forest college professor, Madetira Devamma a  retired teacher  and  Sushila Bopaiah have presented their article papers in the seminar.

 

Kodava Sahitya Academy member Chakkera Thyagaraj prayed.  Reception Committee member Mr.M.C.Subbaiah, welcomed. K.M.Motaiah and and M.T.Criappa  compered the programme. K.Ganesh conducted the vote of thanks. Various Cultureal programmes were arranged.

DIVORCED WIFE KIDNAPPED

 

Madikeri May 18

 

A husband who was divorced with his wife 10 years back has kidnapped her in an Ambassidor car (No.CRQ-7954). He suddenly came with dangerous weapons during wee hours and carried Rs. 25 thousand cash, a mobile phone  and other things kept inside  the house and absconded with his divorced wife. The incident took place at Kushalnagar.Ravishankar Verma of  Kasaragod had married  Vidyalaksmi of Kushalnagar during 1994. Ravishankar had committed a crime and was facing the charges. The couple got a child. Vidyalakshmi  could not have tolerated some of the crimes of her husband and divorced him. Then she was dwelling with her brother Shashank at kushalnagar.

 

The police have alerted the border gates and are seriously investigating.
