COP DIES IN ACCIDENT A police constable serving at Virajpet police station died in a road accident yesterday. Constable C.A.Aiyappa, 30 was returning from Ponnampet in his motor cycle and was hit by a lorry. Aiyappa died on the spot. PARISHATH PRESIDENT DEMANDS MLC POST Chairman of the Kannada Sahitya Parishath, Mr.Harekrishna Punarur has demanded that the Parishath presidents be appointed as MLCs on priority. Addressing press persons here after unveiling a statue of Kuvempu at Madikeri, Punarur stated that the Parishath is struggling without sufficient funds. Demanding more funds from the government, Punarur said that his staff is not paid salary since three months. Opining that onslaught of English in the state is weakening the strength of Kannada, he wished governments active involvements in projects to strengthen it, He admitted that not enough was done through the Parishath due to lethargy by some of the district office bearers in the state. FELICITATED Mr.Punarur took part in a chain of functions organised by the Kalasagr Nritya Kala academy. A bust of Kuvempu was unveiled in the town by the chairperson of Karnataka water and sewage board Mrs.Chandrakala, who has also donated that the bust. Former MLA, Mr.D.S.Madappa inaugurated the garden where the statue was erected. In a function held at Kaveri Kalakshetra in the evening , renowned personalities in the field of different forms of art, Mrs.Nirmala Bopanna, Aravind Kiggal, Mr.G.Chidvilas, Mr.Vishwanath Bharani, Mr.Shamshuddin, Ms.Saleha, Mr.Krishna, Mr.C.B.Vijaya Kumar and Mr.K.Ramesh. Mr.Hafeez presided over thge function. Addressing the Gathering, Harekrishna Punarur called upon the children to imbibe the qualities of Notional poet Kuvempu. |
