NOW, THESE LADIES MIGHT COLLECT GARBAGE FROM YOUR HOUSE!
If the ambitious programmes of government are implemented
properly, members of the Stree Shakthi Groups
will knock at the doors of residents living in identified towns to
collect garbage. The residents will be rid of the anxiety of going out, looking
for garbage bins, elsewhere. The planning officer Ms.Rekha Ganapathy told this
correspondent that a new scheme is formed by the government to entrust the duty
of collecting garbage from the houses to the Stree Shakthi Groups under Nirmala
Nagara Yojane. Madikeri has about 333 Sree Shakthi members. The government has identified 32 towns in 21 districts to
bring under this new scheme. The Women
groups are directed to collect rupees 20 from each house for this purpose. The
houses refusing to pay would be punished by the local bodies by disconnecting
water supply or levying fine. These groups would also be given the responsibility of
maintaining public toilets. Stree Shakthi groups in the district are thriving. They are
manufacturing Umbrellas, candles phenol etc. Rekha stated that the groups are
being released loan to the tune of rupees 2.5 lakhs under various schemes.
