MESCOM OFFICIALS SENTENCED;

Somwarpet court has convicted three MESCOM officials in connection with the case of a death of a daily wager, yesterday.

The court has slapped six months imprisonment and rupees two thousand fine to the convicts..

The judgment was issued in connection with the death of a daily wager, Raju. Raju who was working on the pole died instantly as the current passed in the middle of his work. A complaint was lodged alleging the negligence of Junior engineer B.Mohammed, technician Venkat and Manjunath. The incident occurred at Doddathur village in Somwarpet during 2.5.2002.

BROADBAND FALSE PROMISE;

The Netizens forum here has alleged that the Telecom department here has not kept up its promise to start Broadband in the district by April first.

It has said that the Telecom District Manager Mr.Mani had issued statements in the media issuing false assurance. It has cautioned the department and said that it will approach consumers’ forum if the broad band does not commence early, as per their promise.

POLICE – MEDIA FOOLED;

The Virajpet police were in a fix yesterday as an anonymous caller informed that a dead body is sprawling on the road and he suspect murder.

A team of police rushed to the village called Devanageri, a couple of kilometers away and searched for the corpse in vain. A band of journalists too followed police.

Except a giggling voice shouting APRIL FOOL from some corner, the teams did not find the corpse they were looking for!

MINISTER TO TOUR;

The district incharge minister Mr.R.Srinivas will tour Kodagu from tomorrow.

Apart from attending Congress and Janatha Dal meetings, the minister will take part in few functions.

CRICKET FESTIVAL;

Parrellel to the Family hockey festival being held at Madikeri from this fifteenth, Kudranda family will hold cricket festival from May 1 at Virajpet.

Founder of Family Cricket festival, Mr.Keethianda Carson told reporters here that they wish to start a Kodava Cricket Academy in Kodagu. Family Pattedar Chengappa and others were present.
