C.N.C. CELEBRATED NEW YEAR WITH LIGHT

The Codava National Council (CNC) for the first time celebrated the new year “Bishu” with a torch fire march on the main streets of Madikeri town during nigh hours.

After the march fast the well wishers of CNC joined at Cauvery Hall, Madikeri. The CNC Secretary General Mr. Nandineravanda Nachappa passed the resolutions. Till today the organisation had tried its’ maximum to meet the important state leaders and presented the memorandums. But, no leader so for invited the organisation for s discussion. If such attitude continues the CNC will continue its’ peaceful agitation- announced Mr. Nachappa in the meeting which was supported by all other members.

The demands are:- Provide constitutional protection for the Kodava Community,

provide legislative protection for the culture, land and language of Kodavas, Consider Kodavas as tribes, Provide special reservation for Kodavas in employment, education and financial fields, Announce Autonomous Kodava land-These demands should be fulfilled and the Govt. Should invite the organisation for the discussion-said Mr. Nachappa.

Dr. Abdul kalam, the anthropologist from Madras University, Dr,Rajan Gurukal from calicut university have presented their seminar papers in the functioin. Jayanthi R. Shetty,Kaliyanda Prakash,Mukonda Dilip, Kokkalemada Manju and others were present.

BIDDANDA CUP HOCKEY INAUGURATED

Every year since 9 years different Kodava families conduct Hockey festival. This year the responsibility has been fallen on the Biddanda family. For the first time the festival is being arranged at Madikeri, the capital city of Kodagu District.

Today, the Hockey festival was inaugurated at the Field Marshal cariappa College Grounds by Lt. General Kodanda N. Somanna (Retd.)..The Hockey Tournament

Will be ended during May 5th. Total 222 Kodava teams are being participated in the Hockey festival.

The Inaugural function was presided over by Biddanda M.Chinnappa, the Pattedar of the family,Kodagu Hockey Association President Mr. Nellamakkada U.Mohan Aiyappa inaugurated the first match between Kolera vs. Cheeranda .Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof. B. Hanumaiah.Ex. Minister Mr M.C.Nanaiah and his wife Smt. Pandanda Kuttappa, Smt. Renu Somanna were present. Smt. Dati poovaiah compered the programme. General B.C.Nanda (Retd) Major Nanda Nanjappa (Retd.) were also present.
