FLOWER SHOW ATTRACTS CROWD;The three day flower show organised at Rajas seat Madikeri is enthralling visitors in hundreds. Tajmahal, mega sized selwar kamiz made out of arecanut, ganapathi, tortise and other items prepared from vegetables and cereals are centre of attraction in the exhibition which will conclude today. Varieties of flowers grown by public and other places are in the show. Shops selling ceeds and agriculture components are making good business. FAMILY HOCKEY APPLAUDED;Secretary of the State Hockey Association, Mr.Krishnamurthy appreciated the efforts of Kodava families in organising family hockey, each year. Talking to scribes after inaugurating the hockey match between Napanda and Alaranda families, Mr.Krishnamurthy opined that it’s a very difficult task to organise more than two hundred families to play. He was speaking about the colourful hockey festival being organised by the Biddanda family, which will go on for twenty days. He assured that the district would soon get an Astro turf. Vice president of the state hockey association and national umpire Mr.Aiyyuda Venu Uthappa was also present. Meanwhile, a seventy eight year old person-playing hockey was the main attraction of the festival, yesterday. A retired teacher Bacharaniyanda Nanaiah, 78 was all over the ground attacking Mukkatira family team. Mr.Nanaiah had played for India teacher’s team against Srilanka during 1958. He had set a record then by hitting 12 goals out of the winning 16. TWO ARRESTED IN MURDER CASE;Police have arrested two accused in the bizarre murder of one Makki Ali at Kunjila on 17th. Asharaf and Ali are in custody while the main accused Basheer and others are still at large. Basheer and others had pulled Makki Ali down from a bus and butchered him to death over a rivalry. ‘ENNE HAAKI MALAGUTTARANTE’ !MLA Mr.K.G.Bopaiah yesterday remarked that he has received complaints against the district social welfare officer that he sleeps in the office, fully drunk. Presiding over the Taluk panchayath meeting yesterday he took to task the social welfare officer who was absent to the meeting and alleged that “ Aa officer kacherili enne haakkondu malgirtarenta complaint ide” and adviced the executive officer Mr.Motaiah to issue notice to him and also to few others who were absent. Mr.Bopaiah lambasted the irrigation authorities who stated that only four works out of the proposed fifteen are in progress. Several other topics were discussed in the meeting. DRUNKARD BURNS HIS OWN HOUSE!A drunkard set fire to his hut as his wife refused to give money for drinking. A resident of Siddalingapur near Somwarpet, Kunjiram did this heinous act yesterday. According to the complaint lodged by his wife, her husband always demands money for drinking from his wife and never goes to work. Enraged by her refusal to pay yesterday, he set fire to the hut from four corners. Later, holding a billhook he attempted to attack his wife and five daughters. Villagers who gathered at the sight failed to douse the fire which burnt all the contents of the house. Later they tied Kunjirama who was behaving mad to a tree and lodged a complaint to the police. |
