SYMPOSIUM HELD TO SOLVE CITY PROBLEMS;A symposium to tackle the problems of Madikeri Town with CoC in lead was held here yesterday. Former president of the then Town Municipal Council Mr.K.S.Devaiah placed memorandum before the elite citizens, including Gen.B.C.Nanda, Air Marshal K.C.Cariappa and others, who were present. The audience took to task the DC who is in charge of the CMC and its officials, alleging incompetence and irresponsibility. The speakers unfurled the multiple problems like stinking garbage spread in the town, use of plastic and drinking water shortage. Addressing the gathering, MLA Mr.K.G.Bopaiah stated that administration couldn’t be done just by holding on to law. He said that people should be more aware of their rights and voice their opinions and assist with the administration in keeping the town clean. He advised CMC to immediately clear the garbage and repair roads before monsoon sets in. CoC town president Mr.Mehroz Khan spoke about the purpose of holding symposium. CMC member Monti Ganesh and others addressed the gathering. CoC district president Mr.G.Rajendra, DC Mr.Subramanyam also shared their openions. COMPUTERISED TICKETING;Director KSRTC Mr.B.Bhaskar Rao told this correspondent that the department will shortly introduce ticket reservation through internet. During his visit to Madikeri, Mr.Rao disclosed that the Hi Tech facility will allow passengers to book tickets to any part of the country, sitting at home, through the tip of their fingers. Besides to it, Mr..Rao said that electronic ticketing will be introduced throughout Kodagu from May 1. Stating that KSRTC is the first to have introduced electronic ticketing in the country, he said that the printing press under the department would be closed as no printing is required in future. Meanwhile he said that special busses to the tourist spots in Kodagu would also be provided soon. GIRL FALLS TO DEATH IN ACCIDENT;A labourer, Sunitha aged 22 died in a accident at Kurchi village near Srimangala. According to police, the girl was killed falling from parked tractor which moved without driver. The deceased was sitting in the tractor waiting for the driver to come. She died in a Manandavadi hospital with injuries. KILLED AS STOVE BURSTS;A house wife Mrs.Sheela, 27 was killed as the stove bursted in her mothers place at Kyathe village near Shanivarsanthe. A Native of Sakleshpur, Susheela had come to her mothers place when the incident took place, yesterday. She could not be saved even after admitting her to a hospital at Chikmagalore. ARTICLES FOR AWARD INVITED;The district journalists association has invited articles from scribes to distribute awards. President of the association, Mr.Shashidahar has said that two awards would be distributed to articles of human interest and investigative report. The award would be distributed during the general body meeting of the association on the 29th May. The articles should reach the association by 28th of this month and they should be published in the local newspapers. |
