MURDER ACCUSED NABBED;Police yesterday nabbed the murder accused of Makki Ali of Kottamudi. Basheer, the main accused in the case had brutally dragged the victim out of a bus and butchered him to death on this 17th around 6.30 P.M. The investigating officer, CI Mr.Sundar Raj told that Basheer was hiding in a Mosque at Hassan after the incident. He was arrested near Kushalnagar yesterday as he was coming in a lorry from Hassan towards Kodagu. Police seized the motorcycle, sickle and cloths with bloodstains hidden at his house near Kunjila village. He had confessed to the crime and said that Ali was murdered since he tried to shoot to death one of his friends, along with his friends. VAT STREAMLINES TAX STRUCTURE;The Deputy Commissioner of state commercials taxes (legal A and Vat) Mr.D.M.Sridhar opined that the introduction of VAT streamlines the tax structures and taxation rate would be uniformal in any state. Mr.Sridhar was addressing the gathering at Cauvery hall yesterday. The Town Chamber of commerce had organised a function to briuef the traders about the benefits of VAT. Continuing he said that the governments were thinking of introducing VAT system as back as 1999. However the meeting of all chief ministers decided to bring it to force from 2003. Since this was not done, the Empowered Commission took intiative to unfold this from 2005. He also said that the Commission can initiate action against the states which may not introduce VAT system. He said that the tax imbalance is greatly rectified with this system. He called upon the traders to face challenges like entry of Metro and other organisation. District CoC president Mr.G.Rajendra inaugurated the function. He cautioned that traders welcome VAT, but would take to streets if it turns into a ground of harassment. Town traders president Mr.Mehroz Khan introduced. District tax officials Mr.Banegowda, Paul Sequera, Ravishankar, Rajanna and others were present.
