RUCKUS AT SOMWARPET TP MEET;

Pandemonium broke at Somwarpet Town Panchayath meet yesterday as the opposition leaders took to task the president and administration for not inviting the local MLA to a fubnction.

The opposition leaders lead by congress thwarted the meeting by blaming the president alleging that a former MLA launched a drinking water project. Stating that this was an incident of insult, the opposition demanded resignation of the president.

President Mrs.Leela Nirvani invited second attack as she tried to blame media as reporting an unofficial programme as official. Her promise to take the opposition into confidence in future projects brought the situation under control.

Encroachments, unothorised construction and other matters figured in the meeting. An illegation of misusing twenty eight thousand in the street light bill led to heated argument. The matter remained unsolved, as the concerned official was absent.

The members flagged off a lorry the Panchayath has newly purchased for the works.

MLC SAYS NO TO HYDEL PROJECT;

MLC Mr.Arun Machaih told here that Kodagu needs no hydel projects and urged the government to cancel all the proposals that could be before it.

Addressing scribes here Mr.Arun machaiuah said that the government has around 54 mini hydel projects in the state including Kodagu. He stated that Kodagu needs no such projects that are detrimental to environment.

Mr.Arun Machaih was speaking in the press conference organized BY THE Barapole Virodhi Samithi.

He quipped by appealing to government not to strangle Kodagu, which is a hen laying golden egg. Reacting to former MLC Mr.A.K.Subbaiahs interest in organising a contact programme with the contractors of Barapole Hydel project, he simply said “I will rather become M.C.nanaiah and never A.K.Subbaiah”.

RTO COLLECTS 7.48 AS ROAD TAX;

Joint Commissioner of Road Transport authority, Mr.Suleman said that the district has collected a road tax of rupees 7.48 crores against the targetted 7.20 crores.

Presiding over the Sarige Adalth meeting at Madikeri he stated that the department is making the goverment exchequor rich by one thousand crore each year.

The joint commissioner with the local Rto mr.Ramesh listened to many complaints and appeals by people. Mr.Suleman assured that private vehicles will not be allowed to transport pupil to schools, looking at their safety.
