BARAPOLE POWER PROJECT OPPOSED;A strong band of different organizations yesterday went to Barapole powe project area and protested against the project coming up there. The protestors noted that the government has been trying to start the project since 1952 and slowed down after severe protests. However works have once again commenced leading to distress among residents living in the area. Mr.avi Chengappa of Cauvery Sene, Ajjikuutira Suraj and others addressed the protestors and said that around 16 villages will submerge if the project comes up. The protestors who walked 12 kilometers to reach the actual spot adviced the forest officials building a road to give up the work. Taking oath to present sincere protest till the project is withdrawn, committees were formed. It was decided to block any vehicles reaching the area to continue the project. Meanwhile the members decided to stage a protest before the Deputy Commissioners office tomorrow and submit a memorandum urging the government to withdraw the project. Mr.Katti Mandaiah,Titira Dharmaja,Maletira Subramani,M.D.Cariappa ,Hoovaiah, Kenchappa and others spoke on the occasion. TREE OWNERS TO MEET CM;A delegation of the tree owners association will meet the Chief Minister Mr.Dharam Sing at Bangalore on this 16th. Addressing the press conference, the leaders of the association mr.B.T.Pradeep and others stated that the bandh call issued for 24th was withdrawn due to the elections. The association had called for a district bandh to protest against the apathetic view of the government in delivering right over trees to the owners. The association will thwart auctioning of trees at Kushalnagar and Thithimathi forest depot on this 24th,they said. This will continue till the govt budges to their demand, they reiterated. Mr.A.K.Subbaiah, P.C.Hassainar and others were present. ONE DIES IN ACCIDENT;Indresh, a resident of Peraje died in a road mishap,yesterday. Indresh was riding a motorcycle when a bus bashed against him. He died on the spot. MURDERED STILL AT LARGE;The main accused in the murder of rowdy sheeter Mr.Bopanna is still at large. Police failed to arrest the main accused Mr.Tulunadanada Mahesh and another person in connection with the murder, even after a month after the incident took place. Circle inspector Mr.Lingappa told that they have thoroughly searched the whereabouts in the village of the accused and could not find a clue. Sating that the accused must have left the district, he expressed helplessness and said how can we find a person when we do not where he is! Bopanna was brutally murdered on January 10th by a gang who pumped bullets and attacked him with swords. Eight persons were arrested in this connection while the main culprit is still at large. |
