GOWDA INTO CHEAP POLITICS;

The KPCC president Mr.B.Janardhana Poojary yesterday lambasted Mr.H.D.Devegowda against his loose comments on Chief Minister Dharam Singh and said that the country has never seen a former Prime Minister stooping into such low level. He was addressing the party workers here yesterday.

Blasting him for his remarks Poojary said congress cannot be threatened by any one and it is capable of facing election on its own.

Meanwhile Mr.Poojary advised the congress workers and leaders to consider Panchayath elections seriously. “ If we lose this election, there is no place for you and me in the party” he cautioned.

Former ministers Mr.T.John, Mr.M.M.Nanaiah,Mrs.Suma Vasanth, KPCC vice president Mr.Rathod, KPCC general secretary Mr.Mitu Chengappa and others were present.

MLC AGAINST BARAPOLE;

MLC Mr.Arun Machaih urged the government to give up Barapole power project at South Kodagu and cautioned of dire consequences, if it ignores the demand.

Addressing scribes at Gonicoppal, he stated that more than sixteen villages would submerge and rare species of animals will also be destroyed in the project, if initiated. He noted that the government has not taken up the above project and a small power project is sanctioned in the area. Even this or any other power project will have his opposition, he reiterated.

Meanwhile, members of Cauvery Sene are holding indefinite protest before the Deputy Commissioners office demanding cancellation of the project. The sena chief Mr.Ravi Chengappa told that they would not give up protest until the government givbes in writing that it is canceling the project.

They have been protesting since yesterday by fixing tents.

ELEPHANT MENACE;

People from a cluster of villages around Kanive near Kudige are facing incessant trouble from pachyderms.

The villagers complain that proerties worth lakhs of rupees are being destroyed regularly by herds of elephants, which are roaming inside villages, even during daytime. Their appeal to the forest department has fallen on deaf ears they say.

Elephants seriously injured a gentleman on the night of 13th at Bhuvanagiri. The herd hurt him after ransacking his house. The villagers have threatened that they will together chase the elephants into the town, if the department ignores their plea to provide protection by chasing the elephants away.
