CALL TO PRESERVE HISTORICAL MONUMENTS;Historian and Chairman of the state academy of history, Dr.Suryanath kamath has called upon the people to preserve the historical monuments. Addressing the state level awareness camp on historical monuments and their protection, Mr.Kamath said that it’s the inbound duty of every citizen to protect monuments. He said that the protection of these monuments could not be done entirely by the government and citizen is also accountable for this. Stating that the Academy of History was started to do research, bring awareness and chalk out programmes to enrich the past glories, Mr.Kamath questioned who else would preserve the culture if people desist doing it. He alleged that the acts of politicians are causing damage to monuments in the name of development. Deputy commissioner Mr.Srikanth Valgadh inaugurated the camp in Fort premises and said that Kodagu is rich with historical monuments and also flora and fauna. He assured co-operation from the district administration to the five day camp. Guest speaker Mr.G.Rajendra, editor of Shakthi daily expressed concern over negligent manner in which the monuments in the district are being looked after by the archeology department. State NSS officer Professor Kotraiah addressed the gathering.MLA Mr.K.G.Bopaiah presided over the function. SISMOGRAPH AT HARANGI REGISTERED TSUNAMI;The officials at Harangi reservoir said that the Sismographic machine situated at Harangi has registered the earth quake of high scale reported on December 26th at Indonesia. Exhibiting the graph sheets to this reporter, the officials said that the machine installed to trace weather variations around the reservoir is capable of tracing variations in and around three thousand kilometers. It has registered vibration on earth on 26th for about 19 minutes from 6.15 a.m. and on first of January for about four and a half hours after midnight and thirty seconds on the night of second. Meanwhile, a resident of an Ashram at Kailasashram, Talacauvery, Mr.Ravi told this correspondent that he has experienced shaking of earth with a heavy sound on the morning of 26th.
