Rs.7.82 CRORES FOR TOURISM DEVELOPMENT;

The joint director of tourism, Mr.Bore Gowda told this correspondent that the government has sactioned rupees 7.82 crores for the development of tourism in the district.

Stating that a total of rupees 113 lakhs was earmarked for the developmental works and three crores was already released for the purpose. The amount includes special release of funds for Jungle Lodge and Resorts, road repair, drinking water facility and other facilities for the tourists. The department will also build Sulab Shouchalayas in 8 places. Mr.Gowda said that the tourism is receiving a facelift with the effort of central tourism secretary Mrs.Rati Vinay Jha.

SEVADAL TEAM RETURNS FROM ANDAMAN;

A team of 9 Sevadal members including a lady, who had been to Andaman Nicobar to serve the needy returned to Madikeri , yesterday.

The team led by Mr.Hafiz and the district administration, MLA and other organizations received Mr.Shivkumar. The team left Kodagu on 30th December and spent 18 days in Andaman. Addressing the gathering, the members shared their experience and explained that the earth was continuously shaking in Andaman during their stay. Collapsed houses and buildings, debris and dead bodies pose a grave sight while working, they said.

PONDER OVER ‘WHO AM I?’

Says Prof Ramachandra Rao

Ancient wisdom will replace the modern thinking in the days to come, predicted Professor Ramachandra Rao. Addressing the gathering at Coorg Dental College, Virajpet, yesterday, Prof Ramachandra Rao stated that inquiring about the source of our mind, through “ Who am I?” method one can understand the actual value of a human being. He said that we are using only 1/15 of our brains capability and its full use depends upon the level of insight we have.

Delivering a key note address on “Modern insight into Ancient tradition”, he emphasized the need to analyse ancient wisdom, instead of dwelling upon ancient traditions. He also insisted people to understand the inner world before knowing the outer. Journalist Mr.K.B.Ganapathy inaugurated the function. College trustee Mr.K.Aiyappa, Dr.Sunil Muddaiah and others were present.

ARTIST COMMITTS SUICIDE;

An eminent artist, Bhanupraksh,23 committed suicide at his residence at Chettalli by consuming poison.

Bhanuprakash, who has many prizes and awards to his credit in the field of painting swallowed metacid, depressed in life. Ill health is the cause of his death, police said.
