BOY ELECTROCUTED;A youth from Kodagu, working in a company at Mangalore was electrocuted, on 27th. Pravin, a resident of Tannirhalla at Somwarpet died due to electrocution, while working at a private company. His body arrived at his native yesterday and people staged a protest and demanded compensation from the company. As the protestors did not receive the body from the ambulance vehicle, police rushed to the spot. Protest was withdrawn after the local police spoke to the Mangalore police and assured to investigate the matter. BANGALORE CHALO ON FEB 3;The Codava National Council has organized a Bangalore Chalo programme on February 3 and 4 to demand autonomy. Addressing a press conference, the general secretary Mr.N.U.Nachappa said that they are demanding autonomy for about 45 ancient villages of Koagu and constitutional guarantee to Kodavas and others. He said that around 200 members from CNC would hold protest before the Gandhi statue at Bangalore between 10 and 5 P.M. Meanwhile he lambasted the former elected representatives of Kodagu and said that Kodagu needs no MP, MLA or MLC as their contribution here is meager or nothing. PROCEEDINGS OF SESSIONS ON TV;The government is looking into the possibility of approving relay of Sessions proceedings on Doordarshan, said Speaker of Vidhana Parishath, Mr.Sudarshan. Addressing a press conference here yesterday he informed that the government will discuss the matter with the Prime Minister Mr.Manmohan Singh on February 12th. The PM will be visiting Bangalore on the above date. Answering a query he opined that the government is not ignoring the development of the district and will verify the position of the Special Package mentioned by the Governor and promised by the earlier government. Mr.Sudarshan arrived at Madikeri to inaugurate the office of the MLC Mr.Arun Machaiah. |
