DC HOLDS EMERGENCY MEETING ;

The acting Deputy Commissioner Mr. Subramanyam today held a special meeting to control spread of Jaundice at Virajpet taluk.

The emergency meeting was called as hundreds of people suddenly fell ill in that taluk suspectedly for using non-purified water. The meeting headed by the DC, CEO Mr.Sundarnaik, DHO Dr.Vishwanath was attended by officials from Gram Panchayaths situated around Virajpet.

The DC directed Panchayaths and Virajpet Town Panchayath to maintain cleanliness and supply only purified water. Roads side food stalls would be banned and pamphlets educating the public to use boiled water and to maintain hygiene.

Talking to this correspondent, DHO Dr.Vishwanath said that the decease is Hepatitis B, which looks like jaundice. Stating that there is no specific medication for this, it should be controlled by food, he said. A team of fifteen health workers are deputed to spread awareness among the public at Virajpet, he said.

Over five hundred people, including those who are rushing to Iritty for traditional medicine are affected by Hepatitis.

NANAIH LAYS FOUNDATION TO JOIN BANGARAPPA;

Former minister Mr.M.C.Nanaiah yesterday held a closed door meeting with his supporters at Madikeri and discussed at length pros and cons of joining Samajwadi party.

Former president of the district Janatha Dal Mr.Shanthu Appaiah presided over the meeting. The supporters agreed to abide by Nanaiah’s decision and work for the party. However a core committee was formed to tour the district and collect the opinion of party workers before formally announcing the decision.

While staunch supporters of Mr.Nanaiah’s Tatasta Janata dal were present in the meeting, the leaders are hopeful that more will change floor from Janatha Dal.

ROAD BLOCK TURNS DAMP SQUIB;

A highway roadblock called by Nagarika samithy of Virajpet turned a damp squib as cops came and arrested around 23 protestors.

Clashes broke as supporters of MLA Mr.Basavaraju forced police to arrest those who were blocking the road. A complaint from both the sides is registered.

Krishna Kumar, Peter Lobo and others addressed the meeting.
