CENTRE ANNOUNCES COFFEE INSURANCE SCHEME;The centre has announced a special calamity insurance scheme for coffee growers. The scheme is applicable to growers from Kodagu, Hassan and Chikmagalur The installment insurance scheme will cover coffee Arabica and Robusta coffee. While Robusta will fetch rupees 25000 per hectare, Arabica will fetch rupees 35000 per hectare in case of calamities like flood or drought. The instalment amount of the insurance will range between 2.5 to 8%, according to insurance sources. MEDIA ACADEMY FORMED;The state has formed the media academy with Mr.V.N.Subba Rao as its chairman. The members of the academy include Mr.G.Rajendra of Times of India and Shakthi daily, Rajshekar Koti of Andolana, B.E.Amudan of Sanjevani, K.N.Shanthkumar of Prajavani, K.R.Manjunath of and Chandrashekar from Udaya T.V., and others. TALACAUVERY BUZZING WITH ACTIVITY;The Rs. 10.7 crore-rejuvenation work at Talacauvery is on and activities are going in full speed to give a face-lift to the holy place. The Assistant Executive Engineer Mr.T.Nagaraj, Architect Muniangala Prasad are looking after the work. The specialty of the work is that neither cement nor sand is being used for the construction of sanctum sanctorum. The officials in charge said that the full rejuvenation might take a year for completion and the idols would be erected by May end. NO NAXAL ACTIVITY IN KODAGU;The Superintendent of Police Mr.Devjyothi Ray told a section of the press that there is no Naxal activity traced in Kodagu. He said that the district might have Naxal sympathisers, but not Naxalites. He said that security is beefed up in border areas to avoid infiltration of the members of Naxal groups. He sought the assistance of people and organisations to inform the department about any suspicious movements. However he brushed off the questions asked about the mention of Naxal presence in the district made in the sessions. |
