BUS OWNERS SIT ON DHARNA;

The private bus owners here sat on dharna yesterday placing demands.

Sitting in protest before the Deputy Commissioners office in Fort premises, the bus owners association demanded concession in tax and other benefits. They said that the busses in Kodagu should be shown extra tax concessions and flexibility in charges, as this is a Malnad zone. They also demand exemption from tax during monsoon.

The DC in charge Mr.Subramanyam received the memorandum.

STRONGER NATION THROUGH STRONGER JUDICIARY;

High Court judge and administerial judge of Kodagu, Mr.Huluvadi Ramesh has called upon the fraternity to strengthen judiciary.

Addressing a judiciary awareness and assistance programme at Virajpet yesterday that Nations strength depends upon the strength of judiciary. He called upon the people to know the importance of judiciary and take interest in it as it is the foundation for democracy and protects their right and property.

District Sessions judge Mr.Venkannavar presided over the meet.

BAR association president Mr.Raghunath Naik and judges from all over the district were present. Senior Advocates delivered lectures on different aspects of law.

NOW THE TUSKERS GO JOGGING!

A tusker yesterday sent students and public helter skelter at Chettalli.

The school going children ran for life asterday as a lone tuskar was walking towards them in the main road!

Soon people gathered and gave a chase to the pachyderm, which rushed into a coffee estate. When the mob did not give up chasing, the tusker turned around and trumpeted. The frenzy mob ran for life!

Though the forest department was informed, the officials did not bother to visit the spot or tried to chase the tusker away, the villagers complained today.

Coffee estate owners in the area have complained that the tusker is rampaging the estates. The villagers have appealed for protection.

The elephant herds take to towns during summer as the forest department fails to create food and water points to them, to last for summer.

BISON SHOT AT;

A Bison succumbed to injuries caused from a gunshot at Kothur village near Gonicoppal.

It was suspected that the Bison was shot about three days ago. The wounded beast was struggling for life caught in a swampy area in the estate of one Somesh, retired DC and died on this Saturday.

Bisons, like elephants cause damage to crops in Kodagu and the forest department has found no scientific means to keep them away. Some irritated planter must have shot the Bison, a villager said.
