RS.2.68 CRORES PROPOSED FOR DRINKING WATER;The district administration has forwarded to government a proposal of rupees 2,68,500 to provide drinking water to the district. The Deputy commissioner in charge, Mr.Subramanyam told that the project is sent to the state director of Municipal Administration for approval. The water scheme will cover 98 Gram Panchayaths and Madikeri taluk will get rupees 61.25 lakh. Somwarpet will get rupees 98.05 lakh and Virajpet rupees 52.7 lakh. The district administration has pointed out to government that Kodagu, inspite of Cauvery flowing around is suffering from acute shortage of drinking water. Tanks and wells are drying up in many parts The district administration expects that the fund could be released in a week’s time. GARBAGE GALLORES;Meanwhile the City Municipal Council, Madikeri is stinking with garbage being strewn all over. The CMC, which has no elected body in the administration, is suffering at the hands of the officials who are ignoring the health concern and cleanliness inside the city. People have warned of severe protest and dragging the administration to court if it fails to clean the city immediately. They have quoted the example of Virajpet where Hepatitis has broken throwing over 400 people off guard. FOREST MINISTER TO VISIT KODAGU;Forest minister Mr.G.Nagamarapalli will visit Kodagu to take stock of the situation as land owners are demanding right over the trees grown in their lands. The minister stated this in his answer to MLC Mr.Arun Machaih’s question in the sessions yesterday. Mr.Arun Machaiah alleged that the department itself is looting the forest wealth while the rightful owners are denied of their right. The minister who unfurled the statistics and background of forest areas in the district assured to look into the matter. The MLC urged the government to introduce uniform law applicable to forests all over the state. Meanwhile the Farmers association, which was blocking auctioning of trees in the district, has reversed its decision. Mr.J.A.Karumbaiah, president of the association has said that they will not block the auctioning in future as it affects farmers. The government has assured to solve the problem, he has said. FATAL FALL;A City municipal Council worker died a dog’s death as a dog gave him a chase. A dog near chain gate here chased Gopi, 23 as he was assisting in a survey work. Gopi ran for life as the dog gave a hot chase and fell from a gorge. A stone hit his head. The wounded Gopi died at a Mangalore hospital due to blood clot in the brain. |
