TIGER CREMATED;

Madikeri April 1, 2006

The tiger that was killed near Kutta in Nagarahole range was cremated yesterday in the estate where its carcass was found.

Wild life conservator Srinivas, DCFO Jaganmohan Sharma, Superintendent of police Devajyothi Ray and other officials were present and suspected the hands of poachers in the heinous act of shooting the tiger. The veterinary doctor from Srimangala conducted autopsy and found no bullet inside the body. The tiger was shot at the neck region and the bullet has passed through. The officials suspect that the poachers have used sophisticated weapon to kill the tiger.

Kutta police have began investigation.

GENERAL THIMMAIAH REMEMBERED;

General Thimmaiah was fondly remembered on his birth centenary yesterday and garlands were placed on his statue at madikeri and Samadhi stal at Bangalore.

A procession was taken out at Madikeri by the students of General thimmaiah school and Kodava Samaj president matanda Monnappa garlanded the statue situated in the town.Lt.Gen.B.C.Nanada, Air Marshal Cariappa and others saluted the statue.

Meanwhile, the district in charge minister ramachandra Gowda placed a wreath at his Samadhi at Sainik school, Bangalore. Bangalore Kodava Samaj president K.M.Appaiah, daughter Mire Chengappa, son in law maj.Gen.Chengappa and others paid respects.


TRACTOR TOPPLES;

A former soldier Shivappa, 58 died yesterday night as a tractor he was driving fell into a gorge.

Shivappa ploughed a field and was climbing up a narrow road at the time of the incident. The tractor slipped from about 35 feet and ploughed down with Shivappa stuck underneath. Police registered a case. The villagers removed from under body.

PANATTALE CUP FOOTBALL;

The Gowda community is organizing a community cricket “Panattale Cup – 2006” for the first time in Kodagu.

Panattale Sri Aiyappa Sangha will conduct the tournament between 8 and 16 May at District stadium, Madikeri.

The Panattale family heads told in a press meet that those who participate should compulsorily wear Gowda Attire during the tournament.
