PULSE POLIO ACHIEVEMENTMadikeri April 10 Kodagu has achieved 83% in Pulse Polio programme.12,999 children were benefited by polio drops in Madikeri Thaluk,18,090 in Somwarpet Thaluk and 20,555 in Virajpet Thaluk.The district figure shows total 51,636.The Health department and the Rotary club have jointly conducted the programme .According the Dr. Devdas, the D.H.O, in the district 464 polio drop centres were established to do the service. Even, the deputed nurses will go to the houses where the mothers did not turn u[p to bring their children for polio drops in the villages-he said. RS.10 LAKH FOR RAJASEAT DEVELOPMENT.Madikeri April 10 Every tourist will visit Raja seat. The citizens of Madikeri enjoy the week end holidays in the garden. This year the garden will be improved with an estimated cot of Rs. 10 lakh. This amount will be released by the Govt-announced Dr. G.K.Vasanthkumar, the state Horticultural Director here during his visit to view the Horticultural show. The development of the garden was so for neglected. To attract the viewers during the flower show the “Namdhari seeds company” has planted many flower plants a few months back. All plants with colourful flowers satisfies the viewers. After watching the public interest the director has decided to develop this garden and announced the sanctions for improvement. He also expressed the rejuvenation of pineapple cultivation in the district which brings good revenue to the farmers. The pineapple has international market- he exzplained. Regarding the re cultivation of orange which has lot its base in Kodagu due to diseases, he clarified and said the horticultural research station at Chettalli near Madikeri is developing the disease less orange seedlings . The department is also committed to encourage rain harvesting and the anthurium cultivation in Kodagu-he told. THE DEVLOPMENT DEPENDS ON SCHOOLS AND RELIGIOUS CENTRESMadikeri .April 10 Any village or place essentially requires schools as well as religious centres like temples, churchs and mosques.The overall development also depends on the renovation o and smooth running of such religious centres said Mr. Nagarajashetty the minister for Mujrai, Horticulture and fisheries here. He was addressing a press conference before attending a function arranged at Horticultural show. Govt. is thinking of amending the Mujrai rules to enable the distribution of excess funds available in the rich revenue yielding temples to poor temples in Karnataka.. The ancient temples should be well developed and should be renovated-he opined. Under the Aradhana scheme, the funds should be utilized to develop the temples run by the backward class people. Unfortunately abundant fund under this scheme was not completely utilized during the previous years. The Govt. will enhance the amount per assembly constituency to Rs. 5 lakh from the previous releases of Rs. 2 lakh each and this fund will be utilized for the needed temples through the concerned M.L.A of the constituencies. About 130 fishermen’s files were pending for disposal regarding the various compensations to be paid to them after they became victims of victims during fishing due to boat accidents etc; The present Govt has now cleared 90% of the fiels and the affected fishermen o got a sigh of relief- he explained. The Govt. Supports the development of ponds for fishery development by the farmers. He told. If the concerned officers did not work properly in the overall interest of the common people the public representatives may take direct lead to do the service ignoring such lethargic officers-Mr. Nagarajashetty warned. The present Govt. needs minimum of 6 months to settle down well to properly start the development works and “if we fail we are ready to quit the positions” he assured. Mr. Appachu Ranjan, the ex. M.L.A, Mr. S.G.Medappa,. the District B.J.P president were present during the press conference, THE NEGLECTED NETHAJI VANAMadikeri April 10 The Nthaji vana a public garden has been completely neglected by the Town Panchayath, Somwarpet. The garden was attracting the local people as well as tourists wih colourful flowers,,green grass ,the beautiful pond with lotus flowers. The garden is situated on Somwarpet-Shanivarsanthe state high way. During the previous Mandala Panchayath ruling when Ashok was the president he had developed it with personal interest. He had maintained it through Mandala Panchayath administration. The present town Panchayath is least bothered even to turn to that side. The president and members did not consider the appeal by the local residents to improve and maintain the garden.. now the people have to search the garden spot as it is fully covered with shrubs. the pond is filled with mud and covered. The sitting stones and cement seats are damaged and some seats are stolen. The Panchayath is getting crores of Rupees from various heads from the Govt.. This year the Panchayath is enjoying with a special extra grant of Rs.50 lakh. However, no body is interested to deviate some funds to repair the garden and to maintain it. People have demanded to give priority for this work, The town Panchayath president Leela Nirvani has recently resigned from the post to allow other member of B.J.P to become president as per their previous agreement of term bounded position. When asked Shobha Shivaraj, the concerned ward representative about the revival of the garden, she said she will positively present this subject in the coming meetings after the new president takes over charge and she will try her best to recondition the garden. |
