FAMILY HOCKEY KICKS OFF;

Kallichanda Family Hockey tournament was today inaugurated by prema Cariappa, MP.

In a colourful function organized at Ponnampet pre University College, Prema cariappa pushed a silver ball with a silver hockey stick to inaugurate the tournament.

Inaugural match was played between North and South coorg teams. Cheppudira S.Poonachcha led the South coorg team and Palanganda Ajay Aiyappa led the North coorg team. North Coorg team beat South kodagu by 2 – 0.

The Central Military Police presented attractive Bike Show with forty-two stunt tricks.

Earlier, inaugurating the stage function, Prema Cariappa accused Indian hockey selection committee of showing step motherly attitude towards Kodagu players. She said that many competitive talents from kodagu are denied of the opportunity to play in the national team. She urged the centre to look into this matter.

Former minister M.C.Nanaiah urged the families to make a permanent arrangement for funds to conduct the tournament. Referring that the present tournament is being conducted at a cost of rupees thirty lakhs, he observed that not all families might be able to raise so much of money each year.

Founder of the Family Hockey, Pandanda Kuttappa hoisted the flag of Hockey Academy. Kallichanda Kashi hoisted the family flag.A procession was taken out in the main street after performing pooja at basaveshwara temple in the morning.

Vishnu Cariappa welcomed the gathering. Nataraj proposed vote of thanks.

ALL JOIN TOGETHER FOR DEVELOPMENT WORK-PREMA CARIAPPA SUGGESTS

The leaders from all the parties and the elected representatives should join together forgetting the enmity or jealousness and should involve in the overall development of Kodagu-suggested Smt. Prema cariappa, the Rajya Sabha member. She was addressing the gathering at Gandhi Maidan yesterday night after inaugurating the Coffee and tourism festival organised by Madikeri chamber of commerce sponsored by Coffee board and Tourism Department.

She opposed the separate state demand by a group of people. Instead of this, it is advisable to jointly form a single group and to contact the Central rulers including prime minister and also the state Chief minister and others to get the overall development works to be sanctioned. We should forget the personal vengeance-she called.

Mr. M.C Nanaiah speaking as Chief guest opposed the commencement of any Hydel project in the district including the proposed projects at Abbi falls, Irpu falls and Barapole. He warned the projects will destroy the natural environment and spoil the beauty of this malnad district.He urged the State Govt. to immediately sanction the required amount for road repairs in the district which is becoming worst for traffic movement. The people of Mysore, Mandya , Bangalore are benefitted by River cauvery, Govt. is getting crores of Rupees revenue. However it is sad that Govt. is hesitating to release the needed amount for the road repairs in Kodagu. The Govt. should always remember this district has the proud of having the birthplace of river Cauvery at Thalacauvery-he added.

Mr.Tagore, the state Information Commissioner spoke on the occasion He requested the organisations and Coffee Board to train the housewives and hoteliers to prepare the best coffee decoction and this will definitely increase the demand for coffee and also encourages tourism in the district. H e recalled the existence of coffee house in some of the foreign countries which should be followed in our country also. FKCCI president Mr. S.Babu, Upasi Chairman Mr. E.B.Sethna, FKCCI director Smt.Lakshmi kamath,P/R/Committee chairman Ejaj Ahmed Sait were present on the dais. Planter Mr. Vinod Shivappa presided over the function. Mr. Mehroz Khan, the Madikeri Town Chamber of Commerce president welcomed, the Vice president Smt.Monthi Ganesh conducted the Vote of thanks,.

A fashion show by the modeller Mr. Prasad Biddappa and team attracted the audience. “Vintage melodies” of Mumbai presented the musical nite.
