SAHITYA SAMMELAN AT MADIKERI;

The district is gearing up for another cultural event. The fifth Kannada Sahitya Sammelan would be held at Madikeri on May 5 and 6.

The district Kannada Sahitya Parishath president T.P.Ramesh told in a press conference here that scientist and a litterateur G.T.Narayan Rao would preside over the Sammelan. Literary giants like Professor L.S.Sheshagiri Rao, Dr.mangala satyan, Chandra Shekara Patil and others would participate in the function.

He revealed that the president would be taken out in a Bhuvaneshwari Mantap and a cultural procession will be held.

He two day sammelan will also have seminars and poets meet for elders and children.

BSNL EMPLOYEES PROTEST;

BSNL employees yesterday took out a protest march and submitted a memorandum to the District telecom officer.

President of the CITU, Vasanth Kumar Hosamane and secretaryprakash stated that they are demanding payment by fifth of everymonth, protection against harassments, implementation of insurance etc.

FAKE GOLD TO BANK;

C.T.Muthanna of Napoklu in Madikeri taluk was arrested by police here on charges of trying to cheat a Bank with fake gold.

The manager of Primary land Development Bank here lodged a complaint with the town police and alleged that the accused produced 52 gram gold and demanded rupees 22 thousand loan. On verification, the jewel he produced turned out to be fake. Police were immediately alerted and Muthanna was arrested.

Muthanna had allegedly raised ruopees eighteen thousand from the same bank during last year, again by producing fake gold which the bank failed to check.
