DELIMITATION MOVE STIRS THE DISTRICT;Madikeri April 20, 2006 The Somwarpet Taluk Panchayath yesterday passed a resolution condemning the recommendation to cancel Somwarpet constituency and delimit Kodagu with just two constituencies. Meeting chaired by president D Silva took strong objection to the decision and recommendation of Justice Kuldip Singh and urged the government to cancel the decision. The members observed that Somwarpet has more number of gram Panchayaths between two other talukas in the district and it is unscientific to cancel it considering population only as a yardstick. KPCC TO DISCUSS THE ISSUE;The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee will also take up the issue and lead a delegation to Delhi, said former minister M.M.Nanaiah. Speaking to this correspondent, he disclosed that the KPCC would meet on this 22 and pass a resolution to protect the constituency. A delegation led by president Kharge will go to Delhi and try to convince the center not to accept the recommendation, Nanaiah said. He is also joining the delegation. LABOURER DIES OF GUNSHOT;One person died on the way to hospital and another received grievous injuries as a person opened fire at them in darkness, deeming them to be wild animals. The incident was reported on the night of 19 from Hoddur village near Napoklu. Vanchira Nanjappa of the same village set out for hunting on the night. There was a shrieking sound of an animal from inside the forest. Two laboures living in a colony rushed to verify what the sound is. Thammi opened fire. Anni, 47 was immediately hit on head and chest and Raghu also received serious shots. Anni died on the way to hospital Raghu, 50 is shifted to hospital. The Dalith organizations have alleged that attempts are made to twist the case. They have insisted police to register a case of murder. A case has been booked. CM TO ATTEND JURNOS FUNCTION;Chief minister Kumar Swamy will attend the celebration of Silver jubilee of district journalists association. As per press release, the CM will inaugurate the function on 28th at 10 A.M at Madikeri.district in charge minister ramachandra Gowda will release the souvenir. Ravi Bilagere, Vishveshwara Bhat and others will be present as chief guests. Past presidents of the association will be honored during the occasion. |
