PLANTERS CAUTION OF BANDH;

Planters Unions based in South Kodagu have cautioned the police department of calling for a district bandh.

In a public meeting chaired by Kotrangada Chinnappa at Srimangala, planters spat fire against the department and said that cases have been registered against 29 planters on charges of road blockade.

They stated that a road blockade was held during last month after giving ultimatum to PWD department and district administration to repair the roads, which are in highly dilapidated state. They opined that they would have blocked the road if the authorities repaired the roads, respecting their demand.

Zilla Panchayath member Balakrishna, kattimandaih, Ajjamada Lava Kushalappa and others addressed the meeting.

A decision was taken to call for Kodagu bandh, if the authorities fail to reverse the case. Chinnappa informed the members that the district in charge minister Ramachandra Gowda has invited a delegation to discuss the issue on 24th and bandh decision will be taken afterwards.

The members also alleged that police have registered case only against BJP workers while hundreds of other members hailing from different parties were present during the protest. The members stated that others who were present will also urge the police to book case against them.

CHAMBER TO SUPPORT BANDH;

Gonicoppa Chaber Of Commerce president Nanjappa has issued a statement extending support to the bandh call. He has also urged the police to withdraw cases against the public. Cauvery sena convenor Ravi Chengappa has also condemned the police action and offered his support.

MLA BOMBARS FOREST DEPARTMENT;

MLA K.G.Bopaiah bombarded the forest department and alleged that it has illegally encroached revenue lands in the district.

Addressing The KDP meeting of Madikeri taluk Panchayath, Bopaiah urged the forest department to immediately produce details of C and D. he went hammer and tong and said that the forest department with the pretext of growing shade trees in revenue lands has encroached it.

He also charged at engineering department of Zilla Panchayath as officials failed to produce statistics about the number of irrigation projects they are taking up in rural areas. He gave them an ultimatum to produce the records. Officials from different departments came under MLA’s wrath as they had come unprepared to the meeting.

BAR ELCTION ON 22;

Election for the BAR association here would be held on 22.

Hot contest is foreseen for the posts of president, secretary and joint secretary.

S.G.medappa and B.J.Chinnappa are in the fray for the post of president, while Ganapathy and Nirmalananda are contesting for the secretary’s post, Dayanadh and S.K.Nanjappa are eying at the joint secretary’s post.

Election for the Virajpet BAR association will also be held on the same day.
