ORGANIC CULTIVATION OF MANDARIN AND REJUVENATION;

The methods and beliefs being adopted by our fore fathers in agriculture farming have come been proving true and scientific methods are proving null and dangerous, said Dr.Thimmaiah consultant in organic farming, Biodynamic agriculture, Vedic agriculture and solid waste management.

He was addressing a seminar organized by the Horticulture department here to discuss the impact of using chemical fertilizers and vanishing mandarin in Kodagu. Thimmaiah asked why the once famous Kodagu orange has become distinct, why the water table is depleting, why the earth is losing nutrients?

He said that use of fertilizers is the main reason for this and cautioned that going against the environment and damaging earth will have serious repercussions like Tsunami and earthquake.

Stating that the plants derive 95% of nutrients from the environment and just five percent from the earth, he advocated that keeping the environment clean through avoiding chemicals, chanting power packed mantras and doing Agnihotra is the need of the hour. He quoted Upanishad chants and explained that how plants respond to certain chanting. He clarified that by uttering a mantra we are only releasing energy into the environment and it has no religious tag.

He adviced the agriculturists to use organic manure to regain the lost glory of Kodagu mandarin.

Inaugurating the seminar by lighting the lamp, state director of horticulture, Vasanth Kumar said that the government has approved a scheme to take up mandarin cultivation in fifty hectare of land in Kodagu in organic way. He said that removing the old mandarin plants is no solution to the problem and people have to find natural means for rejuvenation.

He also disclosed that Kodagu orange, Nanjangud plantain and Mysore Beatle leaf are patented. Scientists, experts and planters took part in the seminar.
