MOTHER IN LAW GETS LIFER; Madikeri February 6District and sessions court here has slapped lifer to a mother inlaw and three years rigorous imprisonment to father and son to a set ablaze a girl married to their family. It was alleged that Salma, married to one Shariff of Arekad village near Siddapur was brutally done to death by setting her ablaze during 2002. She was tortured by her husband, and inlaws for dowry and was killed just after six months after the marriage. BROTHER SHOOTS BROTHER;In the common incident of family feuds arising in Kodagu, an elder brother shot the younger and injured him grievously. The incident was reported from Kiggalu near near here. According to police two brothers were not in good terms. Elder brother Erappa opened gun at his younger brother Belliappa on Saturday and injured him. Incident occurred as they resorted to fight over a bullock entering the paddy field. Belliappa was shifted to hospital with injuries on chest, face and hand. Rural police have arrested Erappa and produced him to court. MURDER FOR Rs. 250 A person was sliced to death as he owed the accused rupees 250 at an estae near Sunticoppa. An estate worker Vishwanath sliced the neck of a maistry in pannya estate on the night of 4th in a drunken state and killed him on the spot. Police said that the deceased owed the accused rupees 250 in a watch paurchse deal and the accused was enraged as the latter was dodging to give money. Accused is arrested and remanded to judicial custody. BIRD FLUE FEAR IN KODAGU;Madikeri February 7, 2006 Bird flue fever that had rocked Malasia and Indonesia has alerted India and a national alert is spread to keep a watch, according to the department of veterinary. Assistant director of Animal husbandry, Dr.Rajshekar told that all states are alerted about the possible spread of bird flue, which has made its roots in the neighboring countries. He told that the state animal husbandry directorate has issued whip to all the deputy commissioners to take precautionary measures to check the disease. Addressing the Taluk panchayath review meeting here yesterday, he disclosed that blood samples of birds from Kodagu are regularly being sent to Bhopal laboratory for test. He said that the birds settled in Tannimani sanctuary in Kodagu are kept on watch as migratory birds from far off places might land with the disease that is dangerous for humans as well. Sanctuaries all over the state and nation are kept on watch, he told. Presiding over the meeting, TP president Talur Kishore Kumar stated that a technical squad is formed to monitor the issue. The meeting discussed various other issues. A member appealed the TP to direct Kudige milk Diary to buy milk from farmers residing around Bhagamandala. Milk is produced in excess in the area. About 250 liters of milk is available each day. Members enraged against an officer and alleged that they are ignoring their appeal to repair an Anganavadi building at Bettageri. The agriculture officer stated that the silk cocoons are picking good price and sericulturists are expanding their activities in the district. MISAPPROPRIATION AT VIRAJPET TP;Bharatiya Janata party, led by its taluk president Bose Devaiah held a protest in front of the meeting hall at Ponnampet yesterday during the meeting. BJP alleged that misappropriation has taken place during the tenure of farmer president V.A.venkatesh in the Taluk panchayath and demanded enquiry. The members alleged that misappropriation has resulted in two major issues and the meeting passed a resolution to take up investigation.
