THEY LIVE CLOSE TO CITIES, BUT FAR AWAY FROM FACILITIE; Madikeri February 20 Kabbe is a place in Chelavara forests about thirty kilometers from here. It’s a tough terrain to cross. But their live over twenty tribal families, deprived of all facilities. Let alone a school, there is no electricity, no road, no water facility. Families spend dreadful life as they have to live in huts in shambles. The district administration and the politicians have totally neglected this tribal area. The children here have to walk over five kilometers to reach a school. Villagers have to walk more than this disatance during summer to fetch water. The residents took this correspondent round the colony and showed him a water tank and a pipeline. All in shmbles. Tank built during an election has never seen water. Pipes that are erected has seen only air and false promises flowing through. Politicians walk trek through this colony only during election and officials only when some pressure is put. Nonetheless both are self-centered imposters who never meant to provide basic facility, at the least to this colony. It’s a shame that the developing country still has hamlets like this, suffering due to apathy and irresponsibility. DOUBLE ROAD TO GONICOPPA – PONNAMPETMLA Basavaraju, yesterday inaugurated the work for double road at Gonicoppal. The double road would be formed upto Ponnampet in six kilometers, he said. Addressing the scribes, he said that the government has so far released 9.88 crores for roads at Virajpet taluk during his tenure. The road corporation has released rupees 4.86 crore for the roads in the first phase and 70 kilometers of road within Virajpet taluk would be taken up, he disclosed. Rupees 5.2 crores would be released in the second phase and repair works of all roads including the highly dilapidated Makutta road would be attended to, the MLA said. A protest was staged condemning the miserable condition of the hospital and bad service being provided. Complaints by the public included neglecting poor and tribe patients, lack of medicines, erratic presence of doctors, non availability of experts etc. protestors squatted in front of the hospital and demanded the presence of health department heads. However, the protest was called back after the local MLA Basavaraju arrived at the spot and assured to set right the irregularities. pictures contain the remains of a hut built by government, long ago and a tap section which has never seen water! |
