FAMILY PERSON BUTCHERED TO DEATH; Madikeri February 22 A 57 year old man was killed by a family alleging attempt to rape and assault by him at Garwale village near somwarpet. Napanda uthappa of Garwale was accused of molesting the wife of one Kushalappa and causing injury to her by biting, last year. Napanda Kushalappa was an employee in bangalore. Yesterday, kushalappa along with his wife Sharada, odianda Ashok and Aruna, Tumbukuttira Poovaiah chased Uthappa round in an open ground and attacked him with bill hook and clubs. Uthappa died on the spot with deep cuts on head and shoulder. Though the incident occurred around 6.30 P.M, villagers did not go near the body nor attended the funeral as the village had boycotted him. Boycotting persons and families in this village is a common practice. Somwarpet police arrested all the accused except Kushalappa, who is absconding. BRAHMAKALASHOTSAVA AT TALACAUVERY ;MLA K.G.Bopaiah disclosed that pratishtapana and Brahmakalashotysava would be held at Talacauvery in the month of May. Bopaiah addressed the scribes at talacauvery after observing the development, yesterday. Bopaiah, who is also the honourary president of the pratishtapana samity went round Talacauvery and Bhagamandala along with the Deputy Commissioner and other members to watch the development. Rejuvenation of temples in the twin towns is going on at a cost of rupees 10.7 crore under Cauvery development authority. Committee chairman DC Subodh Yadav disclosed that so far rupees 3.5 crore was spent on rejuvenation work and a success of 30 percent is achieved. He said that another thirty lakh is required for pratishtapana work of the two temples, Agastya and Ganapathy at Talacauvery. Rejuvenation will be started in full swing after the pratishtapana and brahmakalashotsava in the month of May. K.S.Devaiah, Sampath Kumar, Shjankara narayana Bhat, Matanda Suresh Chengappa, honourary secretary G.Rajendra and others were present. HOSTEL INMATES RECOVERING;The inmates of BCM hostel at Maragodu who fell sick after consuming food are recovering. Doctors told that only four girls are being treated now as inpatients and others have returned to the hostel. Meanwhile, the Zilla Panchayath president Ashok visited the hostel and took action against the hostel warden. The lady warden was absent on the night of the incident. A complaint was lodged by the inmates and police have registered a case. It can be recalled that 29 students fell sick after consuming ghee rice in the hostel on the night of 19th. The elephant which fell into a forty feet well was being rescued by opening the well, using JCB. Chinnatappa festival being held at Cherambane with full spiritual fervour. |
