KALAM TO VISIT KODAGU; Madikeri February 28, 2006 President Dr.A.P.J.Abdul kalam will visit Kodagu during April, according to sources. Dr Kalam will take part in the centenary celebration of General Thimmauiah being celebrated here on April 7. Army Chief J.J.Singh, Governor Chaturvedi, Chief Minister Kumara Swamy, Deputy chief Minister Yediyurappa are expected to attend the function along with the president. ANOTHER SOLDIER SUCCUMBS;Close on the heels of a soldier succumbing to a bomb blast at Punjab, another soldier from kodagu was killed by terrorists at Kashmir on 27th night. A resident of Begur village in South Kodagu, Mandachanda Aiyappa alias Rally aged 24 died at Rajouri in the exchange of fire with the terrorists around 10.30 P.M. on 27th. Son of Mandachanda Madhu Kalappa and Sarasu, Aiyappa had joined service two years ago. He was serving in the ASC 52 battalion. His body is expected to be flown to Bangalore today. HARTAL OVER MESCOM MESS-UP;Large number of villagers yesterday protested against the irregularities of MESCOM and unscheduled power cuts at Somwarpet. Pandemonium broke as the MESCOM engineer told that the power cuts are made as per the direction from the government. Protestors demanded the officials to show the written order of the government. Situation turned hot as no proof was shown for the power cut. Intervention of police brought the situation under control. Protestors took out a procession and submitted a memorandum to the Tahasildar. They demanded continuous power supply, waiving off the IP set bill etc. |
