MONKS CREMATE GERMAN’S BODY;Madikeri January 9, 2006 Tibetan monks cremated the body of a German who had allegedly committed suicide at Kushalnagar on December 25th. Kushalnagar police had kept the body of Pazer Micheal paul who committed suicide in the cold storage at KR Hospital Mysore to wait for his family members to come. Superintemdent of police Devjyothi Ray told this correspondent that his aged parents refused to come and they only insisted on receiving the death certificate. On receiving their letter, the body was subjected to post mortem yesterday at KR hospital Mysore and was handed over to Kushalnagar police. Since the deceased used to visit Tibetan monasteries, his body was cremated under their custom today. His death has created turmoil at kodagu as people had seen him being beaten by the hotel staff and police before his death. Bhajrangadal unit had demanded CBI inquiry into the death. STATE INTER SCHOOL COMPETITIONS;A state level inter school dance and music competition would be held at kodava Samaj premises, Ponnampet on this 31st. President of the Ninada academy, Nirmala Bopanna said that students between first and tength standard will take part in the Bharatnatyam, general dance, singing light and classical music competitions. She said that this is the third year Ninada academy is conducting this state level competition. HYDEL PROJECT PROPOSALS DIVIDING PEOPLE;The hydel project proposals and mining activities in Kodagu are dividing people with for and against protests. Tension mounted at Somwarpet today as cauvery sene had organized a public meeting to protest against the quarry work going on with licence. A strong band of villagers protested against the scheduled meeting, held black flags, and shouted slogans. Intervention by police thwarted any untoward incident. Cauvery sene cancelled the scheduled procession and held a short meeting with police support. Convenor Ravi Chengappa and others addressed the meeting. MLC Arun machaiah and K.P.Chandrakala who were supposed to attend the meeting were not present. Meanwhile, a meeting held at Gonicoppal yesterday warned the government against taking up any hydel projects in the district against their wishes. But the protestors of Somwarpet today stated that they will demand a hydel project to be taken up at Shanthalli. Hydel project and environmental issues in the district are however dividing the people. |
