TIGER HAVOC CONTINUES;

Madikeri January 19, 2006

Close on the heels of a man becoming a victim to a tiger attack in Nagarhole range, live stocks are becoming prey to the attack in many parts of the district.

Kalappa, living on the banks of river Cauvery at Dubare forest range near Kushalnagar has complained that a tiger has eaten two of his cows. His neighbors say that there could be around five to six tigers throwing terror in the region. They complain that around twenty livestocks were killed in three months time. The villagers have approached forest department with the pictures of carcass.

The villagers have expressed fear stating that they cannot spend night in their fields to protect their crops and live stock. The agriculturists in these areas keep a watch in their fields to protect their properties from elephant attack.

Meanwhile Puchimada Satish Subbaiah from Nallur village near Gonicoppa has complained that a tiger has eaten his buffalo tied in the backyard on Monday night. It returned during day time to eat the remaining parts it had left on the other side of the road.

Forest officials conducted a mahazar and listened to the grievances of the villagers. Villagers have appealed to chase or to capture the tiger at the earliest.
