EDUCATION AS WEAPON TO MOULD LIFE;

Education is the best weapon to mold life, said Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University, Professor K.M.Caverappa.

Caverappa was addressing students of Field Marshal K.M.Cariappa College here after inaugurating a seminar during the national Integration day. He opined that the moral, Spiritual and cultural heritage is strengthening Indian Integration. He called upon the students to enhance the value of culture and gave the example of Rome, which experienced cultural collapse as people failed to protect its values.

Stating that the relationship between teacher and students has not deteriorated in India, compared to western countries, yet he emphasized the need to respect elders and teachers. He however regretted saying that the joint family concept in the country is slowly vanishing.

Inaugurating the function, Lt Gen B.C.Nanda reiterated that the strength of India is its cultural harmony. Calling upon the students to declare themselves as Indians first, he cautioned that we could not be identified as true Indians if we do not imbibe human qualities and dignity. He reminded the contribution of British in education field and said that 90% of the population in Kodagu was illiterates before British arrived after 1912.

Dr.H.S.Suresh. SP Devajyothi Ray were present. Principal Dr.Pushpa Kuttanna welcomed the gathering.Dr.ganapathy Gowda proposed vote of thanks. Lecturer, Ravishankar compeered the programme.

TIGER MENACE INVITES RASTA ROKHO

Residents of South Kodagu held a rasta rokho demanding immediate capture of the man eater creating ruckus in the area.

A rasta rokho was held yesterday at Nallur main road near Kutta. The protesters said that the forest department has not initiated any action to chase or capture the tiger that has claimed the life of a person and livestock.

Roadblock was cleared after forest officials arrived on the spot and assured to chase the beast away in three days.

GIRL COMMITTS SUICIDE;

A thirteen-year-old girl, Shanthi committed suicide by hanging in an estate colony yesterday at Cheyyandane.

According to police, she committed suicide as the family she was living with threatened her for eating sugar cubes without their permission.

Police are investigating.

26th BLACK DAY FOR CNC

The codava National Council will celebrate republic day on this 26th as Black day. Informing this in a press conference, general secretary of CNC N.U.nachappa told that they are demanding constitutional rights to Kodavas, their language and culture. Celebrating republic day without these is meaningless, he said.

Nachappa also disclosed that Dehali chalo programme will also be conducted during April 6 and 7.
