POLLING HELD FOR TWO GPs

Madikeri January 30

Polling for two Gram Panchayaths were held at south Kodagu yesterday.

62% polling was registred at Gonicoppal and Ponnampet gram panchayath election held yesterday. Ponnampet has 18 constituency and Gonicoppal has 19 constituency. Election was brisk and peaceful.

Election officer Tulasi said that the counting of votes would be held today at Virajpet. Totally 119 candidates contested for the election.

INTEGRATION SHOULD SPROUT FROM WITHIN;

Former MLC M.C.Nanaiah told here that the feeling integration should sprout from within.

He was addressing the valedictory function of national Integration camp here yesterday. Addressing the students hailing from different parts of the country, Nanaiah stated that students should keep away from politics and develop the feeling of Indians first. He urged the need to concentrate only on studies and ignore the fads oof caste and creed.

Addressing the gathering, NSS officer Professor Gopal stated that there are 25 lakh NSS volunteers working in the nation and government is spending money for different projects to encourage them. Principal Pushpa Kuttanna presided over the function and said that Field Marshal K.M.Cariappa college is first to host a national Integration camp. Ganapathy Gowda welcomed the gathering. Poonacha read the report. Ravishankar compeered the programme.

ELEPHANT MENACE ROCKS BIRUNANI;

A planter Choottangada Uthaiah was attacked by a tusker recently and shifted to Bangalore with grievous injuries.

Uthaiah family lodged a complaint with the forest department and said that a tusker has become a regular visitor to their estate at Birunani village at South Kodagu and is threatening their life and crops.

The family said that Uthaiah was attacked on 24th by a tusker. He was bundled by the tusker and trampled. He was shifted with multiple fractures and injury to the lungs to a hospital at bangalore. They complained that the tusker returned to their estate again on Saturday and damaged their crops.

They sought compensation and a permanent solution from the department.
