POLITICIANS CLASH WITH JURNOS !Madikeri March 6, 2006In a rare scene of excitement in Kodagu, politicians fought with senior journalists yesterday with cricket ball and bat! Journalists accepted defeat at the hands of politicians by 54 for 84. MLC Arun Machaih, MLA K.G.Bopaiah, former minister M.M.Nanaiah, ZP president Ashok and other politicians from all the parties took part in an exhibition match conducted by district journalists association to mark the celebration of its silver jubilee at Madikeri.ZP president Ashok, Journalist B.G.Anantha Shayana, DCC president Veen Achaiah, Ponnachettira Vasanth inaugurated the tournament. Senior journalists G.Rajendra, association president G.Shashidar, T.P.Ramesh. G.Chidvilas, Jeevan Chinnappa, Dinesh and others were in the battlefield.TWELVE-HOUR RASTA ROKHOA dawn to dusk rasta rokho was held at the inter state road at Makutta protesting against the dilapidated condition of roads. Representatives of different organizations took part in the twelve-hour roadblock and demanded the government to construct new, suitable road leading from Virajpet to Kerala, crossing Makutta. The condition of road has worsened since years and the protestors demanded the government to immediately sanction 22 crore earmarked for its repair. Executive Engineer Basappa arrived at the spot and assured that repair work would be taken up by spending 88 lakhs. But the protestors said that the temporary fillings will not stay for long as hundreds of heavy vehicles ply in the route each day.
