UNTIMELY RAINFALL BRINGS LOSS;
Madikeri March 7

Untimely rainfall, added with thunder has been rocking the district since three days.

A cow was electrocuted at Madikeri and trees have fallen at various places, yesterday night.

A cow died of electrocution at KSRTC bustand here yesterday night as the thunder sent live wires from an electric pole dangling.

Trees have fallen across Gonicoppal and traffic was hit yesterday evening.

Reports of heavy rainfall have come from many parts of the district, including Somwarpet and Virajpet talukas.

MUSLIMS CALLED TO GIVE PROMINENCE FOR EDUCATION;

Former MLA, K.M.Ibrahim has called upon the Muslim community to educate their children to face the challenging world.

Addressing a Urus and all religion function at Emmemadu village near here, he regretted that the community is lagging behind in education. He urged the jamaiths to consider education as priority. He also told them to join hands to assist poor in weddings and other calamities.

General secretary of the All India Sunni jamayath, A.P.Abubaker Musliar, A.K.Mohamood Musliar, ZP member Manu Muthappa and others spoke on the occasion. Hundreds of poor were fed on the occasion.

CALL TO PROTECT ENVIRONMENT;

Different organizations yesterday urged the government to stop quarry work at Toluru Shettalli in Somwarpet as it is threatening environmental disaster.

Addressing public meeting organized by Cauvery Sene, Hitaraksana Vedike and Mukri Hill Hitarakshana Vedike, environmentalist from Jog Falls in Shimoga, Mahabala Shunty lambasted the government and said that the Western Ghat is being destroyed with the due support and negligence by the government.

Rajesh Gundu Rao from Janatha Dal urged the people to oppose mini in these parts even if the governm,ent supports such hazards. Former MLA Appachu Ranjan accepted that licence was issued for mining when he was an MLA and accused the officials for misleading him. He urged the government to cancel the licence.

Convenor of Kaveri Sene, ravi Chengappa alleged that the Tolur Gram Panchayath has succumbed to pressure and misguided the Deputy Commissioner about the legality of mining.

State and district representatives of many parties took part in the meeting.
