COUPLE GET LIFER;MDIKERI March 8, 2006Couple who shot dead a person at South Kodagu was sentenced to life by the district and sessions court here. Aiyappa and his wife Anitha were the natives of Teralu village in Srimangala. They had property dispute with Chenganamada Thammaiah and Aiyappa. On 21.4.02, Thammaiah was traveling in a Tiller with two others near Teralu. The above couple waylaid the tilled and opened fire them. While Thammaiah died on the spot, other two accomplices, Chippanna and Devaiah were injured. Srimangala police had registered a case and arrested the couple. The District and Sessions court judge Venktesh yesterday sentenced the couple to life. It was observed in the judgement that Anitha handed over cartridges to her husband to open more shots. The accused will face life sentence for murder and seven years rigorous imprisonment for attempt to murder and a fine of rupees five and one thousand each. EMPLOYEES STRIKE;The district government employees have decided to support strike call issued by the state association. Addressing the valedictory function of coffee growers meet at Siddapur yesterday he asserted that quality is the only criterion through which the market could be stabilized. He opined that soil should be checked often to ensure nutrient content. Informing that the domestic use of coffee has risen from 50 to 60 metric tons, he said that the market could be improved with the united effort and bringing awareness about the use of coffee. Assistant director of Coffee board, Mysore, Ponnanna stated that fall in coffee production in Brazil has stabilized Indian market.member of the board, Premnath Pooja inaugurated the function.
