COPS RAID MARIJUANA PLANTATION ; Madikeri March 10, 2006 Police Sleuths yesterday raided a Marijuana (Ganja )plantation area in a village at Somwarpet on the heights of a mountain and seized crop worth lakhs of rupees. Police team led by district crime branch braved the tough terrains of a place called Mari Gundi in Mutlu village for hours in the wee hours and entered a five acre plot of Ganja grown systematically by miscreants. Police arrested a Kerala based accused at the spot while four others escaped from the spot. Accused were staying inside a natural cave beside the plantation. Police recovered food and other materials stored inside the cave. Accused were lifting water for plantation through a stream According to police Marijuana grown in the area is worth rupees 80 lakhs. They suspect the involvement of local people in the racket. The place is cordoned off as the fully grown crop has to be destroyed after the legal process is over. DCIB Inspector Lingappa, Inspectors Ramratan Kumar, Muralidhar and others took part ion the operation. Accused Biju will be produced to court today. TIBETANS DISPLAY WORLDS BIGGEST PICTURE;Tibetans yesterday displayed a picture of Padma Shambhava, known as worlds biggest at their rehabilitation center at Bylakuppe. The 200 feet high and 180 feet wide picture was carried to the seventh story of a building by 100 monks and unfurled from above. Monks were waiting from 4 a.m to get a view of the picture. Padma Shambhava is known as incarnation of Lord Buddha. The picture would be displayed for forty five minutes each year to mark their tenth day of New Year. Tibetans address the picture as “Tonka”. Hundreds of Tibetans, including westerners are taking part in the New Year events being celebrated at the center from March one. TWENTY CRORE FOR MAKUTTA ROAD;Taluk panchayath member A.C.Cariappa has disclosed that a proposal of rupees twenty crore is submitted to Government for the repair of Makutta road. Reacting to the recently held twelve-hour road blockade by protestors urging road repair, he said that MLC Arun Machaiah has already submitted a proposal to government and the file is with the state secretary. Cariappa was talking to scribes at Gonicoppal yesterday. Picture of Padma Shambhava considered to be the biggest in the world! |
