POLICE OFFICER DIES AT BELGAUM;Madikeri March 11, 2006An assistant sub inspector Ajjettira Ponnamma, 55, died in a road accident at Belgaum yesterday. Ponnamma was serving as an ASI at rural police station, Madikeri and had been to Belgaum for a training along with other lady constables. The accident occurred at Bagewadi near Belgaum. A state bus bashed against the KSRP van retuning to Madikeri along with Ponnamma and others. While Ponnamma died on the spot, many others received injuries. Body of Ponnamma was kept at K.R.Hospital Mysore yesterday and brought to Kodagu today. The cremation took place at Mythadi village, her residence. Deceased leaves two daughters. POLICE REMOVE MARIJUANA;District police have removed Marijuan grown in Pushpagiri protected forest. Marijuana plantation was raided by the police two days ago and plants valued at rupees eighty lakh was traced and a Kerala based person, Biju was arrested in this connection. According to police, three others are also involved in the racket and investigation is on to arrest them. Meanwhile, police removed the plants in about five acres by cutting and are waiting for the court permission to destroy them by burning. Heavy security is arranged in the area. FREE HEALTH CHECK UP FOR TRIBES;The Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Panchayath, Sundar Naik has said that free health check up camps would be conducted at Somwarpet and Kushalnagar for Tribes. Addressing scribes her, he said that the camp would be held at Kushalnagar Community Health Centre on this 14th and at Somwarpet Health Centre on 20th.
