FEAR IS THEIR MAIN WORRY HERE!Madikeri March 13, 2006About thirty families living in Chennena Halli near Hebbale, near Kodagu – Hassan border live under fear. Reason for their fear is multiple. Wild elephants can enter their houses any time and attack them. Solar fence erected around their colony has grounded long ago. Added to it the recent thunder has damage their roofs and walls. Anything can happen to the tribes living there, any time. The government thirty years ago built these thirty huts! Elected representatives and ministers pay their visit only before the election with promises and never spend a pie to develop the area, so says a youngster Sampath living in ditress. He realed that four families are living in one hut since a month as the rain has damaged the roof and walls of three other houses.’ We have to depend on daily wages. If we find some work, we shall eat. If not, we sleep with empty stomachs. When such is is the situation, how can we repair these almost irreparable huts?”, he questions. The residents of the tribal are have appealed to the government to set right their houses, build solar fence to protect them from elephants, which often damage their huts. COFFEE STOLEN;A coffee godown was broken yesterday at Cheyyandane , 32 KMs from here and theirty bags of coffee was stolen. According to police, miscreants broke into the locked godown at night and made away with the coffee bags worth thousands. Dog squad was pressed to service and investigation is on. President of the Coffee growers co operative society, M.B.Devaiah told that the godown had a total of 252 bags of coffee and miscreants lifted only thirty bags, perhaps to fill one vehicle. The godown belongs to the society. |
